ArtBeat continues in Davis Square today.

This is one of my goals for today (Elm Street Stage, 1:30pm):



It will be interesting to see how this works as a 1:30pm afternoon show.

Down the Hill: Richard Buckner at Johnny D's

Ok, I have to admit. Occasionally I leave Winter Hill.

This weekend, Richard Buckner will be playing at Johnny D's in Davis.

If you're not familiar with his music, Richard Buckner plays a range of Americana spanning the most beautiful acoustic ballads, to alt-country rock, to complex looping experimental soundscapes. Past performances at Johnny D's have been more solo and the latter style.

Not much video to poach from the web for him, but here's a nice middle-ground that may give you an idea of what to expect:

Davis Square Task Force agenda and meeting room full

By Ben Johnson The Davis Square Task Force held a meeting this past Monday night, February 23rd. Somerville Aldermen, small business owners, and interested residents all gathered in the Tufts Administration Building (TAB) at 7pm to discuss ongoing and future business developments and community updates in the Davis Square area. The crowd in attendance Monday evening was sizeable with nearly 30 people squeezed into the small classroom on the first floor of the TAB. The meeting's agenda included presentations about constructions and business developments followed by crime updates and then a discussion of The Davis Square Task Force's future. The first project brought to the floor was a presentation on the plans for constructing new townhouses at the Carli Fence Site on Willow and Newberne Street. The presentation was given in part by project architect Peter Quinn who said, "The Bike path will be the address" of the new townhouses.  Read more... Photo via The.D80.Project's flickr photostream

End the Ice Cream Boycott

It's starting to cool down outside. A little early since it's practically mid-August, but it's supposed to be 90 again this weekend. Maybe that would be a good time to take a walk through our evolving map of Winter Hill to try to find some ice cream:

Ugg, looks like the closest places are still too far to walk. Friendly's seems to be the closest joint, but it's across 93 and I think JP Licks in Davis Square might be a better option for the distance. There's always Christina's in Central Square and Toscanini's and Herrell's in Harvard Square. If you're intent on going Eastward, though, there's a Coldstone a little past the Friendly's in Medford. I haven't been to Emack & Bolio's, but hmmm... I feel like I've had this dual name socially conscious rock and roll vibe from some other trademark of ice cream... Well, it looks like I won't be walking to get ice cream this weekend. Let's end the ice cream boycott in Winter Hill.
